The
Harris Rapport
Featuring the theme "Faith. Academics.
Service," Sacred Heart celebrates Catholic Schools Week from January 29
to February 4 and kicks off with an Open House for prospective parents and
students from 10:30 am
to 12:30
pm on Sunday, January
29th.
On Monday, all classes will
assemble in the courtyard to hear the proclamation that “Jan 29 – Feb
4, 2012 is Sacred Heart Parish School Week” in Coronado, as signed by Coronado Mayor Casey
Tanaka.
The following days will be
highlighted by fun events that recent alums will surely remember, for instance,
crazy socks day and community appreciation day when
classes deliver school-baked cookies to many in public service at the fire
department, library, and police station.
New this year, students of Mrs.
Marlene Twomey in grades 7 and 8 are displaying their science projects all week and are eager to find out on
Wednesday who will go on to compete in the annual San
Diego science fair.
Students and family top off the week
with the ever popular bingo and ice cream social on Friday
evening.
I'd like to know what alums like you
recall about the Catholic Schools Week activities you experienced here. I
invite you to email them ~ or better yet, stop in sometime and tell me in
person!
Sincerely in Christ,
Peter
Harris

Alumni
Aid Accreditation Preparation
As mentioned by Principal Peter
Harris last fall (Tending the Heart,
October 2011), the school is participating in a voluntary
accreditation program
conducted by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
He said, “Doing this every six
years enables us to improve the school’s continual delivery
of the quality spiritual and academic programs begun in 1947 and assures today’s parents that their
children will receive the very best education for lives of faith and
service.”
Alumni also play a part in the
evaluation, and recently Vice Principal Jeanne Luna emailed alums asking them to respond to a survey. About two dozen did, and she
emailed each a thank you for taking the time and effort to respond.
Alums are invited to view the WASC document at the school office and see
what the school found out ~ what it does well and what it plans to improve in
the next six years.

learn more about this valuable process, visit the Western Association of Schools
and Colleges at: http://www.acswasc.org/
Can't
Place the Face of Someone in Your Class?
You can aid your memory by
checking the photo of your graduation class on the school’s website. Graduates
from 1948 through 2011 are available with their accompanying identifications at

Feeling
Nostalgic for Sacred Heart Parish?
If you’re in the mood to see some of the
good ole days, there’s a video just for you produced
by Parish historian Elizabeth
Lenardi. She based it on the parish’s collection of photos dating from
1897 and it shows priests, parishioners, Benedictines, students, and buildings
through the years. The video can be seen on the church website
at:
